Top Ten TuesdayTop Ten Books I HAD to Buy But Haven’t Read Yet

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. It’s awesome. Every Tuesday, the lovely folks over at The Broke and the Bookish post a top ten list topic so that book lovers like you and me can pour over our shelves and make our own lists. You can check out all the other Top Ten Tuesday’s on their site!

Friends, THIS topic is like my deepest, darkest bookish confession. Umm, sorta. I guess it’s not THAT dire. Unless you’re my wallet. THEN, yes. DIRE. Because when I splurge on things, friends, 9 times out of 10 I’m buying myself books. And then probably 7 times out 10, I don’t get around to reading those books I splurged on in anything resembling a timely manner, as proven by this (much truncated) list. I have so many unread books on my shelves, it’s RIDICULOUS.

Book cover for Defiance by C.J. RedwineDefiance: Defiance #1 by C.J. Redwine

Holy crap, guys. I PREORDERED this book–it came out last August–and I still haven’t read it. Haven’t even cracked the cover open one time. Which is a shame because it sounds like a badass fantasy/dystopian mash-up, and I’m intrigued. (Side note: prepare to see the words “I preordered this one” again on this list.)

Book cover for The Crimson Crown by Cinda Williams ChimaThe Crimson Crown by Cinda: The Seven Realms #4 by Cinda Williams Chima

Perhaps this one is cheating a little bit because I’m going to be reading it shortly and, in my defense, I only started reading this series last year, when I plowed through the first three books like they were going out of style. But it did come out last fall, and I still haven’t read it yet despite my eagerness, so here it is.

Book cover for Across the Universe by Beth RevisAcross the Universe: Across the Universe #1 by Beth Revis

This book has been getting lots of play on my blog lately because I’ve had it for so freaking long and haven’t read it yet that I’m trying to guilt myself into it (is this bad?).

Book cover for The Demon's Lexicon by Sarah Rees BrennanThe Demon’s Lexicon: The Demon’s Lexicon #1 by Sarah Rees Brennan

Basically ditto from above. Demon-hunting, magic-wielding brothers? I can’t explain why I haven’t read this book yet. I can’t. I read the synopsis a million years ago, it reminded me of Supernatural, I bought it fiendishly, and then put it in one of my piles, where it has lingered since. (Cover note: THE MOUTH. I can’t.)

Book Cover for The Floating Islands by Rachel NeumeierThe Floating Islands by Rachel Neumeier

I’ve had this book on my shelves for about two years now. I’m always intrigued by Rachel Neumeier’s books, and I supposed it started with this one: A fantasy about, well, people who live on floating islands and men who have wings (but aren’t angels). In the same pile as BLEEDING VIOLET (see below).

Book cover for Insignia by S.J. KincaidInsignia by S.J. Kincaid

Another preorder from last summer. Gaming/sci-fi action?! WORD. Plus I read lots of good reviews about it. It’s in one of my piles somewhere.

Book Cover for Bleeding Violet by Dia ReevesBleeding Violet by Dia Reeves

Is there something off about the angle of this girl’s leg? No, nevermind. Anyway, I bought this one at Borders (NOSTALGIA!) because I was intrigued by the weird-sounding town and the vaguely magical/paranormal vibe. It’s collecting dust now.

Book cover for Through To You by Emily HainsworthThrough to You by Emily Hainsworth

Preorder Number 3!! I was–and still am–really, REALLY interested in this book about an alternate universe where the main character’s girlfriend doesn’t die in a car accident. Sounds mind-bending.

Book cover for The Witching Hour by Anne RiceThe Witching Hour (Lives of the Mayfair Witches #1) by Anne Rice

Confession: I have never ever read any book by Anne Rice. This, in fact, is the only one I own because WITCHES HELLO! But friends, this book is an absolute BEAST–it’s almost 1,000 pages–and I just can’t ever seem to work up the energy to delve into it.

Book cover for This Lullaby by Sarah DessenThis Lullaby by Sarah Desssen

I am slowly making my way through the Sarah Dessen catalog, and when Penguin released all these SUPER PRETTY paperback redesigns of her books, I snapped up this one because I hadn’t read it yet and had heard good things, and THE TRUTH ABOUT FOREVER because it’s awesome and it has a turquoise bracelet on the cover.

Comments

  1. I hope the guilt is working because Across the Universe is worth the read 🙂

  2. I’m hoping to start the Seven Realms series this week, and then finish it before May, so hopefully I’ll get to read The Crimson Crown soonish as well.

I also really highly recommend Beth Revis’s books. Across the Universe was good, but A Million Suns was fantastic!

  3. I have so many books I’ve bought and not yet read. We recently moved and I still have boxes of books to unpack. I need to start selling some of those books or our home will be covered in books. I also own some of these books…Bleeding Violet and The Floating Islands, for example. I also bought many of the books in my TBR pile from Borders. I loved going in to browse through their books.

  4. I love the books you got on your list & I adore that you got old books mixed with new ones. At times I forget to get the older books I want to read on my tbr list, which is a bad thing, because some of them are really good. 🙂

Have fun reading the books you want to read.

  5. You need to read Defiance and Across the Universe, they’re both amazing! 😀 I want to read Insignia soon too…I have it on my Kindle but haven’t gotten around to it yet! Great list.

  6. AMY. We need to talk. *tips glasses onto nose and stares*

First off, Defiance. Get on it, girl. IT IS SO GOOD. I’m all but twitching waiting for the sequel. Seriously, the world building is solid, the characters are amazing, the romance is AMAZING.

Second, Through To You. It’s a great book! Not the BEST book, but definitely worth a read when you’re in the mood for an emotional read.

AND FINALLY. You’ve not read The Mayfair series? GAH. SO GOOD. Weird, and INTENSE and LOTS of history and odd stuff but SO GOOD. Read them about twelve years ago and I’m STILL in love with them. 🙂

And don’t worry, if I had done this TTT I’d be ashamed of myself because I have some doozies I bought but haven’t read yet.

  7. Oops! Oh, Amy 🙂 That’s okay, we get a sneak peek into next week!!! 🙂
Yay read Insignia!! I was really surprised with how much I loved that one! Almost 5 stars and it’s with a MALE MC. I never would have guessed! haha.
I bought Defiance over the summer and still haven’t read it. Sigh. Let me know when you read it! We can read it together 😀

  8. I’m currently reading Across the Universe and really enjoying it so far. Hopes it gets more exciting though but I am only a 100 pages in! I’m already planning on buying the second book, A Million Suns in the next few days so I’ll have the sequel to dive straight into. I have Defiance on my wishlist and it looks so good! I hope you get round to reading some of these this spring 🙂

  9. It took me quite a while to get around to reading Defiance, but it’s actually a really good novel! It started off fairly slow for me, and I almost put it down – but then things picked up after a MAJOR event in it and I just got super invested in the story. It’s awesome. Plus, I totally rooted for the romance to happen!

I too have Across the Universe – I’ve had it for quite some time, and I really think I should start the series. The third book is out now so that’s a major bonus!

  10. Amyyyyyy…. you really MUST read Defiance! It’s totally my favorite! I haven’t read any of the others on here, but yes to them all!

  11. Oh my gosh, I have several of these on my shelf that I haven’t read yet either – The Floating Islands, Insignia, and This Lullaby (which I’m reading soon, I promise). I DID read and love Across The Universe and A Million Sons, but I haven’t read the final book in the series yet because you know I absolutely FEAR the series finales like the plague.
