Top Ten Tuesday (68)

Top Ten TuesdayTop Ten Books on My Spring TBR

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. It’s awesome. Every Tuesday, the lovely folks over at The Broke and the Bookish post a top ten list topic so that book lovers like you and me can pour over our shelves and make our own lists. You can check out all the other Top Ten Tuesday’s on their site!

Remember how last week I did the wrong Top Ten Tuesday and we all had a laugh? ME TOO. I’ve been so excited about these Top Ten Tuesdays that I can’t even keep them straight! I’m glad that I do get to share these 10 books with you guys because I’m SO VERY excited about them. These 10 and probably at least 10 more, but isn’t that always the story. Anywho, these are the 10 books I’m looking forward to reading this spring!

Book cover for Unbreakable by Elizabeth norris

Unbreakable (Unbreakable #2) by Elizabeth Norris

April 23, 2013 from Balzer + Bray

Did you guys read the first book in this science fiction series, UNRAVELING? It was pretty legit, what with all that wave theory and alternate dimensions and a countdown to THE DESTRUCTION OF THIS EARTH AS WE KNOW IT. Also, the romantic feels were very good indeed.

Book cover for Golden by Jessi Kirby

Golden by Jessi Kirby

May 14, 2013 from Simon & Schuster BFYR

Jessi Kirby‘s books are like the old reliables of my shelves. I know, I know, that sounds so dry and dull. But no! I mean this in the most positive way OF EVER, because her books are consistently good, consistently breezy while still having lots of feels, and consistently the books I find myself looking forward to each year. When I heard that GOLDEN has a little mystery vibe to it? Psyched me up to the nth degree.

Book cover for The Flame in the Mist by Kit Grindstaff

The Flame in the Mist by Kit Grindstaff

April 9, 2013 from Delacorte Press

This middle grade debut just sounds plain fun as all get out. It’s a fantasy about a young girl, a prophecy, an army of ghosts, and pet rats. Plus, if you’ve been around these parts before you know that I have a soft spot for gingers, and as you can plainly see on the cover, we’ve got a ginger on our hands. Who wants to bet that her hair has something to do with the “flame” in the title?

Book cover for Dark Triumph by Robin LaFevers

Dark Triumph (His Fair Assassin #2) by Robin LaFevers

April 2, 2013 from Houghton Mifflin Books for Children

THIS. FREAKING. BOOK. I read it already, thanks to Houghton Mifflin, and I STILL think about Sybella and Beast and the amazing story Robin LaFevers is telling in this series. A-MAZING.

Book cover for This Is What Happy Looks Like by Jennifer E. Smith

This Is What Happy Looks Like by Jennifer E. Smith

April 2, 2013 from Poppy

First of all, there’s lot of yellow on this cover, and that’s my favorite color, so I’m drawn to it. But what really draws me to this book is that it sounds adorable, and there’s a beach town in it, and two kids who fall for each other over email.

Book cover for Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare

Clockwork Princess (The Infernal Devices #3) by Cassandra Clare

March 19, 2013 from Margaret K. McElderry Books

I just finished listening to CLOCKWORK PRINCE, book 2 in this series, and I’m as eager as anyone to know how things end up for everyone in the London Institute. Also, isn’t there some kind of triangle in this series? Right? I think there is. I guess I’m interested in how that ends up, too. (PSH SIKE! I WANT TO KNOW THAT SHIZZ SO BAD. #TeamWillExceptILoveJemToo.)

Book cover for Handbook for Dragon Slayers by Merrie Haskell

Handbook for Dragon Slayers by Merrie Haskell

May 28, 2013 from Harper Collins

AH!! Dragons! A runaway princess! Enchanted horses! I DIE!! This is also one of the prettier covers I’ve seen in a while. This looks like a very stellar fantasy.

Book cover for The Hero's Guide to Storming the Castle by Chrisopher Healy

The Hero’s Guide to Storming the Castle (The League of Princes #2) by Christopher Healy

April 30, 2013 from Walden Pond Press

THESE GUYS! I’m laughing just thinking about them and their awesome awkwardness and their kickass ladies who flout stereotypical fairy tale princess roles as well. BRING IT, HEALY.

Book cover for Star Cursed by Jessica Spotswood

Star Cursed (The Cahill Witch Chronicles #2) by Jessica Spotswood

June 18, 2013 from Putnam Juvenile

Umm, DUH I’M EXCITED FOR THIS BOOK. I have been thinking of the first book in this series, BORN WICKED, randomly and kind of frequently since I read it last year. I love the alternate history and the shady Sisterhood and the evil Brotherhood, but mostly I love those Cahill sisters. And that ENDING!! I can’t wait to see where we pick things up here.

Book cover for Spirit by Brigid Kemmerer

Spirit (Elemental #3) by Brigid Kemmerer

May 28, 2013 from K Teen

Oof, these covers. I feel like every time I talk about these books I always include a little disclaimer to not be swayed by the cheese; what’s inside is pretty legit. The Merrick brothers might be one of my favorite families in YA right now, even though book 3 is about Hunter, who’s a friend of the brothers. But! OMG! Brigid Kemmerer is writing MOAR of this series, and Michael–the oldest Merrick and my favorite–is going to get his own book. I can’t.

Comments

  1. I’ve read two of these so far — Dark Triumph and This Is What Happy Looks Like. Loved both!

I cannot wait to read The Flame In The Mist and Golden (especially after Asheley’s review of Golden).

    ALSO!

Handbook For Dragon Slayers, Hero’s Guide, and Star Cursed are all books that I am BEYOND pumped for.

    • Dark Triumph was legit THE BOMB. I can’t even explain how much I am loving that series.
There are some super sounding MG fantasies coming out this spring, right?! STOKED.

  2. EEEP I’m so excited for Unbreakable! And Golden is so good! OOH and The Flame in the Mist – YAY FANTASYY!!! Still haven’t read Grave Mercy, but I am SO EXCITED you loved both books! And I’m about to start This Is What Happy Looks Like – eep! *squeezes it* OKAY AND I’M GOING TO READ STAR CURSED THIS WEEK(END) AND MAIL IT TO YOU!

I still haven’t read book two in the elemental series because ever since I was a wee girl, the idea of protagonists changing from book to book UPSETS ME. I can’t handle it. It makes me SO IRRATIONALLY SAD. It took me months to read the second book in the Pink Carnation series because I was like WHAT no more Richard and Amy? STOP IT. Anyway. But I need to finally move on from that and read the third one.

    • haha…I love that changing protagonists in a series makes you irrationally sad. And I LOVE that your example was the Pink Carnation!! I hope you’ve finished book 4 by now. I think you were in the middle of it when I started blogging, like a year and a half ago. 🙂
But I hope you get over it and start reading the other Elemental books. I’m telling you, Tara. You’d love them.
I AM DYING TO READ STAR CURSED BUT NO RUSH OR ANYTHING. (Seriously. No rush.)

  3. The Flame in the Mist is a new-to-me one that sounds fantastic, and of course I’m also looking forward to Handbook and Storming the Castle. Middle grade is so awesome these days!

    Thanks for sharing your list!

    • Middle grade IS awesome these days! So many good ones coming out!! I’m really excited about The Flame in the Mist. And I really enjoyed The Princess Curse, Merrie Haskell’s last book, and Handbook just sounds so, so wonderful! I can’t wait to read that one!
      Thanks for stopping by!!

  4. I just finished Golden and I’m curious to see what you think of it! Sadly I wasn’t blown away by it, but it was still a good read.
Aaaand I’m smack dab in the middle of Dark Triumph now 🙂
Can’t wait for This is What Happy Looks Like and Star Cursed!
    Wonderful list!!

    • WAH bummer. Everyone has read Golden already, lol! I don’t even have a copy! (Do you even remember what it was like to have to actually wait for a book to come out to read it? Haha…we are so spoiled, lol.)
Also: Dark Triumph was so outstanding, I thought. I’m pretty sure I’ll never hate one of those books. 🙂

  5. I absolutely adored Golden. I read it a few weeks ago, and I just LOVED it. I thought Jessi’s writing was phenomenal and I totally related to Parker. I can’t wait for you to read it!

Also, Handbook for Dragonslayers looks PHENOMENAL. You know me – I go straight for the book if it’s got an epic cover and it mentions dragons!

    • Eep! I’ve heard such great things about Golden! I can’t wait to read it, even though I must. I’ve really enjoyed her other books, though, so I’ve got high hopes!
Handbook for Dragonslayers has the most AWESOME-LOOKING cover, I can’t even deal. I just am dying to read it, because you and me both are drawn to books like this one!!

  6. ugh, my computer ate my first comment! Anyway, I just read Dark Triumph too, and really liked it, BUT I think I’m most excited for the third book, considering who the MC is. 😀

I have a galley of Golden I need to read. It’ll be my first Jessi book!

Molli | Once Upon a Prologue

    • Hungry computers!
I’m looking forward to book three in His Fair Assassin, too. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for Annith!
Golden will be your first Jessi book?! You should read Moonglass, too. I liked that one a touch better than In Honor, although I enjoyed them both. Nothing that will knock your socks off, but very much enjoyable. 🙂

  7. There are no actual words to describe to you how much I love Jessi Kirby’s GOLDEN. As soon as you get your hands on it, IGNORE EVERYTHING ELSE IN LIFE. Seriously.

Also, I’m pumped that I got Dark Triumph in the mail yesterday on a traveling arc tour so hooray for getting to read that one this week. But I have to hurry so I can pass it to the next lucky person.

You actually have a few on here that I need to read and I even have some of the Elemental books myself and haven’t read them yet. Everytime I seem them in my Kindle I remember that you really like them.

    • AHH! I know you loved Golden!! Your review was pretty much the best advertisement ever! My copy is coming in May, so I’ll be ignoring my life then and reading it ASAP!
I cannot wait to read your review of Dark Triumph. I still think about it, and how completely enthralled I was by the story and the characters and the way it continues the same story from a different perspective.
The Elemental books are really good! I think you’ll love the brothers and the way they interact with one another. I <3 Michael, the oldest and broodiest. SMOLDER.

  8. I kinda love that you accidentally posted these backwards. SO THERE.

  9. Oh yeah, I cannot wait to read Clockwork Princess and Spirit!! I recently read This is What Happy Looks Like and it is totally adorable!

    • I’m so glad that This Is What Happy Looks Like is adorable! It sounds like it would be! I just got my copy of Clockwork Princess in the mail. I might have peeked at the last page or so. O_O.

  10. 1. I can’t wait for Golden! I haven’t read anything by Kirby, but this one most appeals to me.

    2. Just got my pre-ordered copy of Dark Triumph in the mail today – WOOHOO! Can’t wait to start reading it 🙂

    3. This is What Happy Looks Like seriously looks so adorable and the plot sounds cute haha!
