Top Ten TuesdayTop Ten Books I Grab When I Want to Read Something Light & Fun

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. It’s awesome. Every Tuesday, the lovely folks over at The Broke and the Bookish post a top ten list topic so that book lovers like you and me can pour over our shelves and make our own lists. You can check out all the other Top Ten Tuesday’s on their site!

This is just the PERFECT topic for this time of year, friends. With the weather getting nicer and the days getting longer, I’m in the mood for breezy. Perhaps, MAYBE not LIGHT all the time, but breezy, fun, fast, and full of good feels. BIG FAN of this list, friends. Lots of rereads on here!

light reads_GTFBasically, any Jennifer Echols book could–and should–be on this list. To me, fun and light = contemporary, and the better the contemp, the more likely I am to want to read it when I’m feeling the effects of the warm weather and the long days. But GOING TOO FAR was my first Echols and it remains my favorite. HOT COP IS HOT, Y’ALL.

light reads_legendI just LOVE this series so hard. I don’t know if I’d classify this series as “light”; in fact, I’m positive that I wouldn’t. But there’s something about the pacing and the action and the feels that keep me coming back to it when I’m in the mood for something that gets my adrenaline going and my heart aching. This one is on here more because of the action and the pace than anything else.

light reads_penderwicksHEYO! It’s time for my semi-regular Penderwicks shout-out! These sisters are honestly so freaking adorable and funny and AMAZING. They’re each so different, but always loving in that sisterly way where they still make fun and drive each other NUTS. This series is seriously THE BOMB.  Very much the breezy fun times that I like to pick up about now.

light reads_percyUmmm, DUH. PERCY RULES MY LIFE. Another one that’s more for the fun and the pace than the lightness, but seriously PERCY.

light reads_DQYAY FARMS! There’s still some emotional heft to these books about the frank, hard-working, unpretentious, AWESOME DJ Schwenk, but I do crave them for their humor and their heart. Also FARMS. DAMN IT! I keep thinking of things that should’ve been on my Top Ten Tuesday last week that I forgot!

light reads_heistSpies will forever be fun and breezy. It’s like Ocean’s Eleven with teens. HOW IS THIS WRONG. My only gripe is that there’s not enough kissing. Ally Carter needs to up her make-out game. But still–if we’re talking about light and fun, these books are BOTH.

I know, I know, this one is a little teensy bit on the serious side, too. But for me, if it’s got a good romance in it, that always makes me feel light and happy even if the circumstances surrounding that romance are a little emo. And we all know that St. Claire is EMO. But doesn’t this whole story just have that MAGIC? I love it, and I reread it all the time because it gives me the warm-fuzzies.

light reads_princesHaha…THESE DUDES. I haven’t read the second book in this series yet, but talk about a book version of a cartoon! It’s so easy to envision these bumbling, hilarious princes being doofuses with hearts of gold, you know? Pure fun, this series is. PURE. FUN.

light reads_amyI cannot think of anything lighter or breezier or more fun than a road trip. Especially this one, where Amy and Roger fall slowly for each other in this really sweet but not saccharine way. SIGH. Rereader and big fan of this one FOREVER.

Top Ten TuesdayBlanket genre shout out over here! I LOVE picking up a historical romance and flying through them while getting all those tingles. Plus, I’m always enchanted by the ton and their manners and parties and scandals and British humor. It is MAY and I haven’t read  ANY historical romances this year. UNACCEPTABLE.

Comments

  1. Man… if I would just read the books I have on my ‘tbr’ list I might have had an easier time this week. I obviously need to lighten up and have a little more fun with my reading choices! I neeeed to read Anna and the French Kiss– also Percy Jackson!

  2. Percy Jackson made my list too – I love that kid!

  3. I STILL need to read The Penderwicks! Must get on it!

  4. I haven’t read a historical romance as well this year, and that DEFINITELY needs to be remedied. I love a good historical romance, especially the kind that has me swooning and smiling and sighing. But it’s a great fit for this list, even though sometimes the issues in them are really sad!

  5. Oh, of COURSE I love Anna & Heist Society (Seriously. YA Ocean’s 11. Genius) and I just bought Legend so I can FINALLY read it. YAYYYY

  6. I just started Heist Society and it’s SO MUCH FUN! And obviously Anna and Amy & Roger, too! So many fun books here.

  7. I love the titles on your list – but I haven’t read Ally Carter yet… I’ll have to add it to my TBR pile. 🙂

  8. Yay, Dairy Queen! I loved the first one, and I’m planning on reading the rest of the series over the summer. Also loved the Heist Society books—but you’re totally right that there’s not enough kissing. Kat and Hale are the BEST.

  9. Totally agree with #10 – I went with all of Georgette Heyer’s historical romances for my #10 spot, but you’re so right, the whole genre fits this list!

I’ve never read any of the Penderwick books but I’m thinking I should correct that! I’ve heard good things about the Heist Society books before too, I’d like to read one of those. I ended up including Lola on my list instead of Anna because I find it a bit more fun and light-hearted than Anna, but it was a tough choice. 🙂

    My TTT list.

  10. You’re the second person I’ve seen to have Percy Jackson and Historical Romance on your list. Great stuff, lots of fun to read!

Here’s my TTT for the week. Happy reading!

  11. I Love Legend!!! I was trying to figure out a way to incorporate it into my Top Ten and could not do it. So sadly, it is not on my list this week, but it is an amazing series!

  12. Oh my gosh, I totally forgot some important series on my TTT. Anna and the French Kiss, The Hero’s Guide, and Dairy Queen are perfect for this topic, and I love those books so much.
