Waiting on Wednesday (42): Princess of Thorns

Waiting on WednesdayPrincess of Thorns by Stacey Jay

Book cover Princess of Thorns Stacey Jay

Game of Thrones meets the Grimm’s fairy tales in this twisted, fast-paced romantic fantasy-adventure about Sleeping Beauty’s daughter, a warrior princess who must fight to reclaim her throne.

Though she looks like a mere mortal, Princess Aurora is a fairy blessed with enhanced strength, bravery, and mercy yet cursed to destroy the free will of any male who kisses her. Disguised as a boy, she enlists the help of the handsome but also cursed Prince Niklaas to fight legions of evil and free her brother from the ogre queen who stole Aurora’s throne ten years ago.

Will Aurora triumph over evil and reach her brother before it’s too late? Can Aurora and Niklaas break the curses that will otherwise forever keep them from finding their one true love?

So, let’s make a list of all the Amy buttons PRINCESS OF THORNS pushes:

1. Game of Thrones: Basically the whole world knows that I love this series, so every comparison–even if they make me a little nervous and sometimes lead to letdowns–instantly piques my interest.

2. Grimm’s fairy tales: Because obviously. I love fairy tales, and fairy tale retellings, and I love the way the Grimm tales are darker and more brutal.

3. Sleeping Beauty: I’m immensely enamored of Sleeping Beauty/Aurora stories. It was always one of my favorite Disney movies, and even though the Disney versions of Grimm’s tales are always watered down I’m still looking forward to this angle here.

4. Girl dressed as a boy: This is a device that will always appeal to me.

5. OGRE QUEEN.

6. Romance-fantasy: Two of my favorite things in one book?! Excellent.

PRINCESS OF THORNS comes out December 9, 2014 from Delacorte BFYR

  1. Ummm . . . yes please! I love books somehow associated with fairytales. I liked the Disney movie a lot, too, although it has never been my favorite. But I am SOOO adding this to my TBR pile 🙂

  2. Great list-I am really looking forward to checking this one out too primarily because of my love of fairytales.
