Kill, Refurb, Marry • Disney Villains

Big thanks to Estelle (her fantastic Disney blog is called This Happy Place Blog) and her friend Melissa from Mouse on the Mind for bringing this MOST EXCELLENT blog hop to my attention! Kill, Refurb, Marry is this awesome post where participants get to play that super-fun game that lets you decide if you want to kill, smoosh, or marry people, with a Disney twist! This month the theme is Disney Villains and I was VERY EXCITED to pick mine. I struggled with who to kill, though, I can’t lie. But I’m happy with my choices.

THIS GUY IS THE WORST. His prejudice against gypsies in Paris is INTENSE. He honestly thinks that they are lustful, thieving, corrupt demons. He basically kills Quasimodo’s parents and is going after Quasi himself when the bishop intervenes and takes Quasi in and grants him sanctuary. But hey, that doesn’t stop Frollo from demeaning Quasimodo any chance he gets, keeping him locked up in the bell tower of Notre Dame. And when Esmerelda shows up? Frollo loses his cool because he is fighting desire for her while also HATING HER GUTS. He just has death and prejudice on his mind all the time. YOU GOT WHAT YOU DESERVED, FROLLO.

So. Hans. He’s a backstabbing, manipulative liar, right? Right. He’s also handsome as the devil and I can’t lie and tell you that that doesn’t make a little bit of a difference. But even though his actions against Anna and Elsa are despicable, I can appreciate his wanting to get out from under the shadow of his multitude of brothers. And even though his intentions were not good, he did help out the people of Arendelle when Elsa’s permanent winter set in. I want to believe that Hans still has some good in him somewhere.

Ok, so this is maybe more because of Hook on Once Upon a Time than Captain Hook from any other Peter Pan adaptation, but there’s something really appealing to me about a pirate. I could do without the whiny version from the cartoon, but look at this badass picture. He looks dark and dangerous and he’s obviously someone who feels things intensely. I can get down with all of these things. Also I like boats.

Comments

  1. Amy, I am so glad you decided to play, and I LOVE the dramatic illustrations you selected. So perfect. (And I really like boats, too. 😉 )

  2. First of all, as a librarian I love the name of your blog 🙂 Secondly, great choices. I had the same kill/marry for the same reason. As for Hans, apparently when they first created Frozen he wasn’t intended to be the villain, so things definitely could have turned out differently for him.

  3. Melissa stole my comment. I also love the illustrations you picked!

“There’s something really appealing about a pirate.” I think that should be a part of your Twitter profile. “May love pirates”. This made me think how differently Hook is portrayed in everything. Let’s do a movie about Teenage Hook. That could be hot? I’ll jump on board. HA HA HA. I’m hilarious and I’ll shut up now.

    Thanks for playing!! xoox

  4. Hook in Once Upon a Time is dang dreamy, so I don’t blame you 😉 I also agree about Frollo – the dude is majorly creepy. He gives me the heebie-jeebies :p

  5. LOVE THIS SO MUCH! The illustrations, esp the Hans one, are amazing! Yeah Frollo deserves all the hellllfiiire he can get. I rarely watch Hunchback because he’s so scary and deserves to dieee. Hans is a good do-over, he’s def cute and you can see potential I guess. Side note: I saw on tumblr someone mentioning they wish he had fire powers and YES. Southern Isles. Red hair. The only other character to wear gloves besides Elsa. Would have been so neat. And marrying Hook haha! Lots of versions to choose from, the Disney one isn’t too bad. I like the Jason Isaacs Hook and the only thing I know about OUAT is how hot Hook is. Good choice 😀
