In My Mailbox (29)

May 27, 2012

In My Mailbox is a weekly meme hosted by Kristi over at The Story Siren. It’s awesome. Every week, we all get a chance to tell everyone what new books we’ve gotten so that we can tell you guys and we can all drool and squee together! Huzzah for squees!

So in honor of my Memorial Day Weekend NetGalley BONANZA, during which I will spend this holiday weekend reading ONLY NetGalley titles, I find it appropriate that I have managed to acquire EVEN MORE NetGalley books to add to my near-toppling “pile,” as it were, of e-galleys. This one’s also a little heavy on the middle-grades, friends. Which is SOLID NetGalley-ing.

FROM NETGALLEY

Book cover for The Believing Game by Eireann Corrigan

The Believing Game by Eireann Corrigan (December 2012 from Scholastic). YO! This book features the following: a boarding school, a cult with enigmatic leader, a young, troublemaking girl, a charismatic local boy, drama, danger, etc. Also, check out this CREEPTASTIC cover?! THE “I” IN THE TITLE IS AN EFFING BLOODY KNIFE. I’m sold.

Book cover for Remarkable by Lizzie K. Foley

Remarkable by Lizzie K. Foley (April 12, 2012 from Penguin BFYR). Awww, guys! This one sounds so cute. Also, I’m surprised that this was still ON NetGalley, since it came out last month, but I’ll take it. Because this is a middle grade that I’ve been wanting to read pretty badly. It’s about this quirky town (HOLLA! One of my favorite plot devices) where everyone is…wait for it…remarkable. Except our main character, whose name is Jane Doe. When these two EVIL Grimlet twins (whose name makes me think of an adult beverage I don’t particularly enjoy, so that makes sense) show up in town, shizz hits the fan. AWESOME.

Book cover for The Dark Unwinding by Sharon Cameron

The Dark Unwinding by Sharon Cameron (September 1, 2012 from Scholastic). So I’ve made a pledge this year to read more steampunk, because it’s usually not my thing, and this book sounds SOLID. It’s got inheritance troubles, crazy relatives who turn out to be odd geniuses, hot apprentices, spies, and a girl who begins to question her own sanity. WORD.

Book cover for The Encyclopedia of Me by Karen Rivers

The Encyclopedia of Me by Karen Rivers (September 1, 2012 from Scholastic). THIS middle grade sounds funny and adorable and I’M LOVING IT. Also, I’m loving those fabulous Hot Topic sneakers the kids are wearing on the cover there. I like the vibe I get from those shoes. Because this is the story of a girl who, to pass the time while grounded, decides to write an encyclopedia about herself, and her family, who live with a child who has Autism. And of course, there’s a boy. Looks super cute, friends.

(Mad love for Scholastic and Penguin BFYR for these awesome books!)

 BOUGHT

Book cover for Partners in Crime by Kim Harrington

Partners in Crime: Sleuth or Dare, #1 by Kim Harrington. I actually bought this for le kindle a week ago, but forgot to include it last week! SAD! Because this middle grade mystery series sounds FUN. Two friends who have to create a fake business for school and decide on a detective agency, which of course becomes REAL. The second book in this series is coming out in the fall, but I can’t wait to get started on this one, guys. MG mysteries, whut whut!!

HUZZAH for the books this week! Hope you guys got AWESOME things too!

Couple great things this week that I’m really excited about, guys! To the books!

FROM NETGALLEY

Book cover for Burn for Burn by Siobhan Vivian and Jenny Han

Burn for Burn by Siobhan Vivian and Jenny Han (September 18, 2012 from Simon & Schuster BFYR). So this one is a vaguely paranormal revenge story that is the first in a set of companion novels about a group of girls who are all about the vengeance. Siobhan Vivian and I don’t always get along, but Jenny Han and I are BESTIES. Looking forward to this one, even though coauthored books always make me nervous. I feel like if there were any two who could pull it off, though, it might be these two.

Book Cover for The Golden Door by Emily Rodda

The Golden Door: The Three Doors Trilogy #1 by Emily Rodda (October 1, 2012 from Scholastic). By now, everyone knows my LOVE of MG. Probably you also know that I LOVE fantasy. So put those two things together, and you get THE GOLDEN DOOR, a new MG fantasy about a walled city that is under attack from things that sound like dragons, and the MC decides to join up to fight them even though he’s too young. YO, the last sentence of the synopsis is this: “What terrors await him beyond the Wall?” Bonus points and my undying love if you can guess what I IMMEDIATELY thought of when I read this.

(Hugs to Simon & Schuster and Scholastic for these two!! MWAH!)

 BOUGHT

Book cover for Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein

Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein. I’m not sure I can talk about how excited I am to read this, even though I KNOW that it’s only going to give me snotty-faced FEELINGS. But seriously: World War II, spies, young girls being brave and smart, friendship, jeopardy, drama. SERIOUSLY cannot wait to read this!

DAC ARC TOUR

Book cover for Secret Letters by Leah Scheier

Secret Letters by Leah Scheier. Thanks to Tara from Fiction Folio for hosting this FAB tour for a totally awesome-sounding book about a young girl in Victorian England who goes to London to solves crimes with Sherlock Holmes. Who might also be her real dad. EXCEPT when she gets to London–BOMBSHELL!–Holmes is already dead. Of course she picks up where her dad left off, solving crimes and all that biz. I love historical mysteries, so I’m PSYCHED about this one. TACKLE HUGS, TARA!!

Squee! Loving these books, guys. Hope your week’s were awesome, too!

Happy Mother’s Day, moms! In your honor, I have some AWESOME books to be thankful for. You know, awesome books because MOMS are awesome. Or something.

FROM NETGALLEY

Book cover for Here Where the Sunbeams Are Green by Helen Phillips

Here Where the Sunbeams Are Green by Helen Phillips (November 13, 2012 from Random House Children’s). Books that take place in the jungle instantly pique my interest. This book kind of reminds me of that movie Rio, except told from the people’s perspective instead of the birds. In this middle grade book, two sisters go to the Central American jungle to search for their missing father. And LOOK AT THAT COVER! Gorgeous!

Book cover for Magicalamity by Kate Saunders

Magicalamity by Kate Saunders (December 11, 2012 from Random House Children’s). This one sounds like it will be good fun, guys. A young kid finds out that his dad is an escaped fairy on the lam and hooks up with these three fairy godmothers, who sound kind of nuts, to save his dad when he’s recaptured.

(Big thanks to Random House Children’s for these two gems!)

 BOUGHT

In My Mailbox

The Penderwicks at Point Mouette: The Penderwicks #3 by Jeanne Birdsall. OBVIOUSLY. We all know how much I love the Penderwicks. I have a soft spot for this book because of two things: One, it takes place in Maine. LOVE the vibe of Maine. And two, Jeffery Tifton, resident sweetheart boy destined to become a Penderwick through marriage, figures into this story in a great way. I love him. LOVE HIM.

In Honor by Jessi Kirby. Just finished this wonderful contemp, the second from Jessi Kirby, and it didn’t disappoint, guys. Cute and heartfelt and lovely. Review coming soon!

Second Chance Summer by Morgan Matson. This was a SUPER week for the sophomore contemps, friends! I ADORED Morgan Matson’s debut, AMY AND ROGER’S EPIC DETOUR, and so far, SECOND CHANCE SUMMER is just as fantastic. Bittersweet vibe  is what I’m feeling from it right now, so I’m both apprehensive and optimistic. I know Morgan won’t steer me wrong!

So happy with my books this week! I hope you guys are just as excited about your books! And Happy Mother’s Day to ALL THE MOMS!!

SO EXCITED about the books I got this week, friends!! GAH!! AWESOME-PLOSION!

FROM NETGALLEY

Book cover for Meant To Be by Lauren Morrill

Meant To Be by Lauren Morrill (November 13, 2012 from Delacorte). HOLY CRAP I CANNOT WAIT TO READ THIS BOOK I WANT IT SO BAD YAY LONDON. Ahem. So. DIED when this went up on NetGalley, friends. Sounds so stinkin’ cute.

Book cover for My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick

My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick (June 14, 2012 from Dial BFYR). Another book that made me DIE. I can’t stand all these fantastic sounding contemporaries, friends. I might EXPLODE from how excited I am for this book about a girl who falls for her next door neighbor. EXPLODE!

Book cover for Personal Effects by E.M. Kokie

Personal Effects by E.M. Kokie (September 11, 2012 from Candlewick Press). So, it’s probably not so big a secret that I LOVE this trend in YA involving the military. I don’t know if I could explain to you why I love reading about young people in the Armed Forces and all of that topic’s many trickle-down effects, but I do, and this book–about a boy whose brother is KIA in Iraq and he tries to figure out what happened to him there–appeals to me a LOTS of ways.

Book cover for Every Day by David Levithan

Every Day by David Levithan (August 28, 2012 from Knopf BFYR). I haven’t read any of David Levithan’s books yet, but this one sounds fantastic. It’s a story about a genderless spirit who is reborn every day into a different body–boy, girl, old, young, etc.–who falls in love with a girl. This sounds like an AMAZING romance, friends, with lots of BIG THOUGHTS going on.

Book cover for Love and Other Perishable Items by Laura Buzo

Love and Other Perishable Items by Laura Buzo (December 11, 2012 from Random House Children’s). GUYS!! I died JUST NOW when I realized that LOVE AND OTHER PERISHABLE ITEMS is the US publication of Laura Buzo’s Australian work, GOOD OIL (2010)! GOOD OIL has been on my TBR for a while now, so I’m double excited about this book. Aussie YA is consistently STELLAR.

Book cover for Palace of Stone by Shannon Hale

Palace of Stone: Princess Academy #2 by Shannon Hale (August 21, 2012 from Bloomsbury). Friends, if you haven’t yet read PRINCESS ACADEMY by Shannon Hale, PLEASE try to soon. It’s a wonderful MG fantasy, and Shannon Hale is AMAZING. When I found out that Miri and co. were getting a sequel that takes them to the big city, I got SO EXCITED. Can’t wait to read this one!

(Tackle hugs to Delacorte, Dial BFYR, Candlewick, Knopf BFYR, Random House Children’s and Bloomsbury for these AMAZING books! ILY!!)

 BOUGHT

Where She Went: If I Stay #2 by Gayle FormanThis duo about a girl who almost dies along with her family in a horrific car crash, and the fallout of her near death and it’s affect on her relationship with her boyfriend is FANTASTIC. Needed to complete my collection, friends.

Insurgent: Divergent #2 by Veronica RothOBVS. Tris, Four, Amity, danger, corruption, ETC.?! Please.

Shade: Shade #1 by Jeri Smith-Ready. Guys, I can’t even tell you how much love I have seen lately for this series. I can’t resist it anymore! My library has NO JSR whatsoever, so to the credit card I go! Paranormal romance FTW!

The Hero’s Guide to Saving Your Kingdom: Hero’s Guide #1 by Christopher HealyYESSSSS!!! I have not heard ONE even remotely bad thing about this book. I DIE, I want to read it so badly. It’s coming up very soon, friends. I don’t think I can wait much longer! BONUS? Christopher Healy lives in Jersey. HOLLA, HOMEBOY!

Bitterblue: Graceling Realm #3 by Kristin CashoreSUPER OBVS. No way I’m missing the third installment in this fantastic set. NO. WAY.

Lots of AWESOME this week, guys! Hope your mailboxes are AWESOME, too!

Lots of great stuff this week from all manner of places! Woot!

FROM NETGALLEY

Book cover for Timepiece by Myra McEntire

Timepiece: Hourglass #2 by Myra McEntire (June 12, 2012 from EgmontUSA). MORE HOURGLASS, MORE KALEB. Yes please!

Book cover for One Moment by Kristina McBride

One Moment by Kristina McBride (June 26, 2012 from EgmontUSA). So, FOOT on the cover–not my favorite thing. But! This book sounds intense, mysterious, and thought-provoking, what with a girl trying to recover the memories of what happened the night her boyfriend jumped off a cliff–where they were standing together–and died. Secrets are revealed, y’all!

(Thanks SO MUCH, EgmontUSA!)

FROM THE LIBRARY

The Dark Hills Divide: The Land of Elyon #1 by Patrick Carman. Middle grade fantasy about a girl who goes to investigate a mysterious forest outside the walls of the city where she lives. Sounds SUPER.

Fairy Tale Detectives: The Sisters Grimm #1 by Michael BuckleyThis series has been on my radar for ages, guys, because it’s a middle grade series about descendants of the Grimm brothers who investigate crimes INSIDE fairy tales. Seriously.

Time Enough for Drums by Ann RinaldiSo, I’ve mentioned before that I NERD over the American Revolution. Tara from Hobbitses heard this wonderful news and told me that I MUST read this book. American Revolution? CHECK. BONUS?! It’s set in Trenton, NJ. FANTASTIC.

The Girl Who Could Fly by Victoria ForesterAnother one from the backlist, friends. Also middle grade. About a young girl who can…wait for it…FLY, who gets sent to a special school for other kids with special gifts.

The Summer Before Boys by Nora Raleigh BaskinI actually already reviewed this one over at Bookalicious.org. It’s a really sweet, thoughtful story about a young girl whose mom is serving overseas in Iraq.

Divergent: Divergent #1 by Veronica RothThe more I thought about this book, the more I WANTED IT. Also, I was hoping to reread before INSURGENT comes out next week, but ALAS. I forgot how HUGE it was.

The Summer Series by Jenny Han. This is seriously one of the BEST, ANGSTIEST contemporary YA series, guys. I LOVE these books, and one of the most fraught, dramatic triangles ever. And, you know, CONRAD. SIGH.

Lots of AWESOME this week, guys! Hope your mailboxes are AWESOME, too!

Just a couple of gems this week, guys! Onwards to my unintentionally school-themed mailbox!

FROM NETGALLEY

Book cover for The Sinister Sweetness of Splendid Academy by Nikki Loftin

The Sinister Sweetness of Splendid Academy by Nikki Loftin (August 21, 2012 from Razorbill). MIDDLE GRADE! Mystery! Plucky heroine! Missing friends and mysterious teachers! Yes too all of these things.

Book cover for Dark Companion by Marta Acosta

Dark Companion by Marta Acosta (July 3, 2012 from Tor Teen). More crazy business at a school, friends. In fact, these two NetGalley books sound more similar than I realized: mysterious happenings, secrets, etc. I LOVE IT ALL.

(Big kisses to Razorbill and Tor Teen for these two books!)

 ARC TOUR

Book cover for The Wicked and the Just by J. Anderson Coats

The Wicked and the Just by J. Anderson Coats. So I didn’t actually GET this book this week. In fact, I’ve already reviewed it. But I forgot to shout it out in my last mailbox, and I have to mention it so that I can give a virtual high-five to Tara from Fiction Folio for running the ARC tour for this book. *high-fives Tara* Thanks, Tara!

Loving my short but sweet mailbox, my dears. Hope yours were just as FAB!

Lots of NetGalley goodies this week! HUZZAH!!

FROM NETGALLEY

Book cover for Gilt by Katherine Longshore

Gilt: The Royal Circle #1 by Katherine Longshore (May 15, 2012 from Viking Juvenile). SIGH. The court of Henry VIII was a vicious, scandalous, secretive, sexy place and I’ve loved reading about it ever since I discovered Philippa Gregory’s books. I’m stoked that this is the first book in a series because I’m ready to get invested in some historical fiction, guys.

Book cover for Silver by Talia Vance

Silver by Talia Vance (September 8, 2012 from Flux). Paranormal romance about a girl who thinks she’s been invisible to ALL THE GUYS because she lacks pheromones. OBVS she’s wrong and things are–say it with me now–NOT WHAT THEY SEEM. But it sounds intriguing for sure! There’s soul-binding! And SEKRETS!

Book cover for Blackwood by Gwenda Bond

Blackwood by Gwenda Bond (September 4, 2012 from Strange Chemistry). YO!! GAH! So this book. It’s about–loosely–the lost colony of Roanoke, guys. THE LOST EFFING COLONY OF ROANOKE. As a history nerd, this whole idea SLAYS ME. How does an entire community of people disappear off the face of the earth?!? HOW?!? (If this was Supernatural, they would have been infected by a demon disease and eventually died.) Ahem. THIS book is less historical fiction and more contemporary romance-mystery. Because 114 people disappeared THEN, and 114 people disappear NOW, and these two kids have to figure out what happened. BOOM.

Book cover for Thieftaker by D.B. Jackson

Thieftaker: Thieftaker Chronicles #1 by D.B. Jackson (July 17, 2012 from Tor). Holy balls, guys. I first heard of this historical fantasy that takes place during the American Revolution (my number 1 history-nerd time period) from The Booksmugglers. And when have THEY never done me a solid? I can’t even BEGIN to tell you how excited I was when I saw this on NetGalley. SERIOUSLY. (FYI, this isn’t a YA book just in case you were wondering.)

(Big kisses to Viking Juvenile, Flux, Strange Chemistry, and Tor for gifting me with these BEAUTS!)

Great week for me, guys! Hope you had equally awesome mailboxes!

HAPPY HOLIDAY WEEKEND, guys!! Just a few treats this week, but they were pretty effin’ sweet so I HAVE to share them.

FROM NETGALLEY

Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

Obviously, this is not the cover for Throne of Glass. This one is the cover of the just-released second novella, though. Actual cover for ToG is supposed to be released soon!

Throne of Glass: Throne of Glass #1 by Sarah J. Maas (August 7, 2012 from Bloomsbury Children’s). Guys, I’m giving you a heads up: I will be FANGIRLING this book HARD, probably forever. Not sure it matters that I haven’t even read it yet. I’m just so excited for it. It’s a high fantasy, loose retelling of Cinderella, except Cinderella is a criminal/assassin. Um, BOOM. When I got approved for this one, I FREAKED OUT. FREAKED. OUT. MAJORLY. (PS. There’s two prequel novellas out right now featuring the main character, Celaena. The first one, THE ASSASSIN AND THE PIRATE LORD, is FREE right now on Amazon, and the second one, THE ASSASSIN AND THE DESERT, is only 99 cents.)

Book cover for The Scorpions of Zahir by Christine Brodien-Jones

The Scorpions of Zahir by Christine Brodien-Jones (July 10, 2012 from Delacorte BFYR). Um, a middle-grade book about an adventurous, curious young girl and her explorer family who run into some danger in the desert? I love the sound of this one, guys.

(Virtual hugs to Bloomsbury Children’s and Delacorte BFYR for this loot!)

BOUGHT

Book cover for Grave Mercy by Robin LaFevers

Grave Mercy: His Fair Assassin #1 by Robin LaFevers. Guys, I don’t really want to be a person who FORCES books on people. Honestly, that’s not really my style. EXCEPT when the book in question is as BANGING as GRAVE MERCY. If you like historical fiction or fantasy, PLEASE RUN NOT WALK to the bookstore or the library and pick this one up. Pretty please? There will be no regrets.

(Virtual hugs to Robin LaFevers for writing this book and being a GENIUS OF WORDS!)

Great week for me, guys! Hope you had equally awesome mailboxes! And HAPPY HOLIDAYS again!

BIG week for the fantasy, friends, which makes me EXTRA DOUBLE happy because IT’S GAME OF THRONES DAY!!!!!! WOO HOO!!! Ahem. So, right. BOOKS.

FROM NETGALLEY/EDELWEISS

Book cover for Velveteen by Daniel Marks

Velveteen: Velveteen, #1 by Daniel Marks (October 9, 2012 from Random House Children’s). This one sounds kind of like a YA THE LOVELY BONES, except darker and with a main character who is all REVENGEY and wants to haunt her killer until he can’t take it anymore. Obviously, her plans go awry and the stakes are HIGH for both the living and the dead, so yeah. I’m in.

Book cover for Shadowfell by Juliet Marillier

Shadowfell: Shadowfell, #1 by Juliet Marillier (September 11, 2012 from Knopf BFYR). Guys, I haven’t read much Juliet Marillier, but what I HAVE read was so legit, and I have so many of her other books on my TBR that I can’t wait to read. SHADOWFELL sounds absolutely awesome, plus it’s a fantasy, and we know I love those! Can’t wait to dive into this one!

Book cover for Kissing Shakespeare by Pamela Mingle

Kissing Shakespeare by Pamela Mingle (August 14, 2012 from Random House Children’s). So, I think this cover is GORGEOUS. But what REALLY gets me excited to read KISSING SHAKESPEARE is the whole, “theater geeks time traveling back to 16th-century England” business. Because the kissing Shakespeare in the title is REAL. I think. It SOUNDS like it’s going to be real, and that is AWESOME. I love it when the line between sci-fi (time travel) blurs with historical fiction.

Book cover for Flirting in Italian by Lauren Henderson

Flirting in Italian by Lauren Henderson (June 12, 2012 from Delacorte BFYR). Is it just me, or are books set in other countries THE BOMB? I just love them, especially when they are contemporaries, although I love them in any time period. This one sounds just plain fun: flirting, Italian boys, mysteries (ooooh!), and “long hot nights of dancing under the stars.” You don’t have to ask me to read this book twice.

Book cover for The Hero's Guide to Saving Your Kingdom by Christopher Healy

The Hero’s Guide to Saving Your Kingdom: The Hero’s Guide to Saving Your Kingdom, #1 by Christopher Healy (May 1, 2012 from Walden Pond Press). I can’t believe I forgot this one earlier! Because seriously? A MG of the famous fairy tales–Snow White, Cinderella, Rapunzel, and Sleeping Beauty–told from the points of view of the PRINCES?!? Mind = BLOWN. I was CRAZY excited when I got this one from Edelweiss.

(Random House was OFF THE CHAIN on NetGalley this week, and Walden Pond Press totally made my day! MWAH to you, Random House and Walden! BIG BIG kiss!)

BOUGHT

Guys, I went a little bananas this week with the buying. *moment of silence for Amy’s wallet, which got HIT this week* BUT! Look at these books! YAY for all the fantasy! And some great contemps, too! (Too bad Pepsi doesn’t give me a cut for the little plug in my picture there.)

Croak: Croak, #1 by Gina Damico. This one is from the DAC ARC Tour, and I forgot to shout it out in last week’s mailbox. So, THANKS LISA AND THE DAC ARC TOUR LADIES! I loved CROAK. This one is OUT NOW, and my review is going up soon!

The False Prince: The Ascendence Trilogy, #1 by Jennifer A. Nielsen. GUYS. This one sounds LEGIT. It’s about a young boy who gets chosen to compete against other boys to PRETEND to be a kingdom’s lost prince returned to prevent a civil war. It sounds TWISTY with lots of scheming and intrigue and TREASONOUS GOINGS-ON. YES.

Graffiti Moon by Cath CrowleyI read this one already and loved it like I love cinnamon buns with cream cheese frosting. (That’s A LOT.) Needed to have a copy to have and hold forever, and now I do.

A Monster Calls by Patrick NessSame as above, except maybe MORE. I’ve already petted this book and hugged it lots. I don’t want to peer pressure you guys to read it if you haven’t yet, but…PEER PRESSURE. READ IT!

The Exiled Queen: Seven Realms, #2 by Cinda Williams Chima. I just finished reading the first book in this series, THE DEMON KING, and I NEEDED this next book ASAP. I’m so glad that I started this series, guys. It’s legit fantasy.

Bittersweet by Sarah Ockler. I’ve been meaning to read some of Sarah Ockler’s books for a long time, but my library doesn’t have any! *sad face* So when I saw that this book had a cookie on the cover because it’s got baked goods in it, and that there are hockey players, too, I KNEW that this would be my first book of hers. I LOVE baking and hockey players!

A Game of Thrones: The Graphic Novel, Vol. I by George R.R. Martin, Daniel Abraham (Writer), and Tommy Patterson (Illustrator)YO. I think I need to make a separate fangirl post about this because, HONESTLY. Game of Thrones day on TV, Game of Thrones day in my mailbox. I really can’t handle it. BUT!! Here’s a preview of the EFFING AWESOME in this book:

(HIIIII, GHOST!!)

Whew! I was pretty excited this week, guys!! I hope you were too!!!

Manageable amounts of awesome this week, guys. I can always get behind that!

FROM NETGALLEY

Book cover for While He Was Away by Karen Schreck

While He Was Away by Karen Schreck (May 15, 2012 from Sourcebooks Fire). I know that I’ve run my mouth about how much I love books about or involving military things, so it shouldn’t be too surprising to you all that I was BEYOND excited to get WHILE HE WAS AWAY from NetGalley. It’s about a young girl whose boyfriend goes to Iraq, and she’s left to wonder what will become of him and their relationship…while he’s away (see what I did there?).

Book cover for The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa

The Immortal Rules: Blood of Eden, book 1 by Julie Kagawa (April 24, 2012 from Harlequin Teen). Vamps never say die, friends. I thought that I would be able to live without reading more vampire stories, but then Julie Kagawa comes along and writes what sounds like a post-apocalyptic/dystopian vampire book–told from the POV of a new vamp–about the search for a way to save humanity from bloodsuckers and other beasts. Ok. UNCLE!! I’m in.

(Sourcebooks Fire & Harlequin Teen get big high-fives for these two books!)

BOUGHT

Mad Love by Suzanne Selfors (January 4, 2011 from Walker BFYR). Kindle deal! This one sounds great. I’ve never read anything by Suzanne Selfors, but I like the way this one seems to get all magical realism on things when Alice, the daughter of the Queen of Romance (the author Queen of Romance, not an actual queen), tries to write her mom’s next book after her mom is checked in to a mental hospital. Cupid and Pysche feature prominently, it seems, as Alice starts to wonder if her mom went crazy at all, and if SHE might be next. DUN DUN DUNNN! All sounds good to me.

Seeing Cinderella by Jenny Lundquist (March 20, 2012 from Aladdin). This sounds like a really cute MG book I bought for my kindle. It’s about a young girl who’s kind of awkward. But! Turns out her new glasses that she was dreading getting have some magic powers. Callie, the main character, must then use her new insights to go about stepping out of the background once and for all! Yay!

That’s it for me this week, guys! Hope your mailboxes were FANTASTIC!!
