Tripping Over December

December

HOW IS IT DECEMBER ALREADY? What happened to 2014? Regardless of where 2014 went, I think that going out with these three books is a pretty great end to a mostly good year.

Book cover Princess of Thorns Stacey Jay

 December 9 • Delacorte Press

So a retelling of Sleeping Beauty where the daughter of the famous fairy princess is a badass warrior who needs to fight to get back her throne? YUP. ALL IN.

Book cover Zodiac Romina Russell

 December 9 • Razorbill

I’m kind of obsessed with this book based on the zodiac signs and that alleged 13th sign. I’m totally intrigued by this premise.

Book cover This Shattered World Amie Kaufman and Megan Spooner

December 23 • Disney Hyperion

THESE BROKEN STARS was one of my favorite books last year. I’ve already read THIS SHATTERED WORLD, and it lives up to the promise of action and romance and conspiracy. SO SO GOOD.

What books are you guys looking forward to this month?

Tripping Over November

Tripping Over November

It’s actually a good thing that I’m not dying for a lot of books this month, guys, because I have a MAJOR review backlog right now. But THESE THREE. I DIE.

Tripping Over NovemberBook cover A Thousand Pieces of You Claudia GrayA Thousand Pieces of You: Firebird #1 | Claudia Gray {Goodreads}

Sometimes parallel universes make my brain smoke, but this one sounds really good. I like the murder mystery angle, though, and the fact that the alleged killer can escape to alternate universes sounds fabulous. Also, gorgeous cover, amirite?

Book cover Mortal Heart Robin LaFeversMortal Heart: His Fair Assassin #3 | Robin LaFevers {Goodreads}

THIS BOOK I CANNOT. I’ve actually already read it, but that in no way dampens my excitement to have a finished copy of Annith’s story in my hands. Guys? It was AMAZING.

Book cover The Walled City Ryan GraudinThe Walled City | Ryan Graudin {Goodreads}

I’m really intrigued by this book, set in the walled city of Kowloon, which is a real place. It sounds dangerous and fast-paced and full of action. I LIKE.

Tripping Over October

October

GUYSSSSS LOOK AT ALL THESE AWESOME BOOKSSSS!!! October is going to be great. Great for the reader in me, but bad for my wallet. I’ve preordered LITERALLY all of these books.

October

Book cover Stray Elisa SussmanStray: Four Sisters #1 by Elissa Sussman {Goodreads}

There is not really anything at all about STRAY that doesn’t sound amazing. The combination of the vaguely creepy looking cover with the story of fairy godmothers gets me all excited. Also, DEBUT! (Greenwillow)

tripping over date-Oct 14

Book cover Snow Like Ashes Sara RaaschSnow Like Ashes: Snow Like Ashes #1 by Sara Raasch {Goodreads}

Another debut! HUZZAH! Fantasies are always going to make my radar, especially when they sound like SNOW LIKE ASHES: a kingdom of winter that has lost its magic (which reminds me of Game of Thrones just a little bit but that’s never bad to me), and a refugee girl who can save everything she knows. STAHHP! (Balzer + Bray)

Book cover Every Breath  Ellie MarneyEvery Breath: Every #1 by Ellie Marney {Goodreads}

I CANNOT with this Aussie contemporary retelling of Sherlock Holmes. I have not heard anything bad about this series from people whose opinions never steer me wrong. (Tundra Books)

tripping over date-Oct 21

Book cover Rowdy Jay CrownoverRowdy: Marked Men #5 by Jay Crownover {Goodreads}

Ok, so Rowdy…first of all, let’s just be superficial for a sec: The hottest cover model in this series is Nash. I’ve literally tried to google who he is. But character-wise, Rowdy has always been so charming and unique. It’s amazing how quickly and permanently Jay Crownover has lept onto my must-read author list. I know she’ll do Rowdy proud (and smokin’ hot). (William Morrow)

Book cover blue lily lily blue Maggie StiefvaterBlue Lily, Lily Blue: The Raven Cycle #3 by Maggie Stiefvater {Goodreads}

OMG so I just finished an audio reread of THE DREAM THIEVES and I am READY for this book. The cover is gorgeous, and the story is no doubt full of the slow unfolding of the search for the ancient Welsh king, Glendower, as well a the delish slow burn romance between Gansey and Blue. One of my most anticipated books of the year. (Scholastic)

tripping over date-Oct 28

Book cover The Slow Regard of Silent Things Patrick RothfussThe Slow Regard of Silent Things: Tales From Temerant #1 by Patrick Rothfuss {Goodreads}

I don’t make any secrets about my undying, for always love for Patrick Rothfuss. No, this isn’t the third book in the Kingkiller Chronicle, but it IS about one of my favorite secondary characters, Auri. Also, Patrick Rothfuss himself is narrating the audiobook! WORD! (DAW)

What books are you looking forward to this month?

July

Book cover Sinner Maggie StiefvaterSinner: The Wolves of Mercy Falls #3.5 by Maggie Stiefvater {Goodreads}

It’s been a while since I read the first three books in the Wolves of Mercy Falls series, but when I heard about the extension that tells the story of Cole and Isabel, I knew I needed to read it. (Scholastic)

Book cover Conversion Katherine HoweConversion by Katherine Howe {Goodreads}

Sooo, a book set in Salem, MA, at a boarding school where a bunch of young girls are trying to deal with the pressures of finishing high school, but instead get caught up in what appears to be another episode of the fits that served as the foundation of the original Salem witch trials. STAHHHPP. (Putnam Juvenile)

Book cover On the Fence Kasie WestOn the Fence by Kasie West {Goodreads}

Ok, I know, I need to read SOMETHING by Kasie West already. I’m hearing super cute things about both of her contemps, so I’ll probably start there. This one sounds ADORBS. (Harper Teen)

July

Book cover Breathe, Annie, Breathe Miranda KenneallyBreathe, Annie, Breathe by Miranda Kenneally {Goodreads}

I usually mostly enjoy Miranda Kenneally’s books. They’re swoony and fun and have just the right touch of feelings. BREATHE, ANNIE, BREATHE, sounds like her best yet, and lots of people I know who’ve read it have enjoyed it a ton. Maybe it will inspire me to start running. *snorts* (Sourcebooks Fire)

July

Book cover The Fire Wish Amber LoughThe Fire Wish: The Jinni Wars #1 by Amber Lough {Goodreads}

Guys, this jinni/jin thing that I’m seeing a lot recently is getting me VERY excited. I’m VERY excited for this debut about a princess and a jinni who trade places. (Random House Children’s)

What books are YOU excited for this month??

June

Book cover Written in My Own Heart's Blood Diana GabaldonWritten in My Own Heart’s Blood: Outlander #8 {Goodreads}

June

Book cover Dreamwood Heather MackeyDreamwood by Heather Mackey {Goodreads}

This book just sounds so magical and adventurous. I’ve been excited to read it for some time, mostly because it’s a MG with a plucky-sounding heroine and some excellent supernatural elements. Sign me up, always. (Putnam Juvenile)

June

Book cover Better When He's Bad Jay CrownoverBetter When He’s Bad: Welcome to the Point #1 by Jay Crownover {Goodreads}

Guys, Jay Crownover is probably my favorite author discovery in recent memory. Her Marked Men series is super: sexy and intense and full of complex relationships. I have no doubt whatsoever that her new series will be more of the same great stuff. (William Morrow)

Book cover Ruin & Rising Leigh BardugoRuin & Rising: The Grisha Trilogy #3 by Leigh Bardugo {Goodreads}

Tripping Over May

Tripping Over MayGuys, I can’t even begin to tell you how many AMAZING books are coming out this month. May is completely an embarrassment of riches in terms of books. PLUS! It’s BEA month! I can’t. I usually only pick my five most anticipated reads each month, but I can’t even lie: That’s going to be pretty much impossible.

Tripping Over May

Book cover Camelot Burning Kathryn RoseCamelot Burning: Metal & Lace #1 by Kathryn Rose {Goodreads}

A steampunky Arthurian tale with magic, Merlin, a steamy squire, and the quest for the Holy Grail. I’m just going to repeat myself: A steampunky Arthurian tale with magic, Merlin, a steamy squire, and the quest for the Holy Grail. I cannot. (Flux)

Tripping Over May

Book cover for Since You've Been Gone by Morgan MatsonSince You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson {Goodreads}

ahshhafoaihfoeytqidbvq *the sound of Amy dying from EXCITESSSS* But seriously, though. I’ve read Morgan Matson’s books so many times over because she just nails everything, always. I have not heard a single bad thing about this book. I need it. I need it ASAP. (Simon & Schuster)

Book cover The Wizard's Promise Cassandra Rose ClareThe Wizard’s Promise: The Hannah Duology #1 by Cassandra Rose Clarke {Goodreads}

I could literally stare at this cover all day. It’s effing GORGEOUS and so interesting. That’s probably because the story itself sounds interesting: a young girl who just wants to be a witch is stuck with a mysterious apprentice who MIGHT be more than he seems and a “non-human” boy who follows them on their journey on the sea. (Strange Chemistry)

Book cover Wish You Were Italian Kristin RaeWish You Were Italian: If Only…#2 by Kristin Rae {Goodreads}

So many cute contemps coming out! This one sounds fantastic, too. Books about traveling are always going to pique my interest, and when you combine Italy with art school and a couple love interests? I’m in. (Bloomsbury)

Book cover Chapel Wars Lindsey LeavittThe Chapel Wars by Lindsey Leavitt {Goodreads}

Lindsey Leavitt’s books are always solid reads for me. There’s always a good mix of romance and emotions, and THE CHAPEL WARS sounds like the goods: a girl whose grandfather leaves the family wedding chapel in Las Vegas to her in his will. (Bloomsbury Childrens)

Book cover A Creature of Moonlight Rebecca HahnA Creature of Moonlight by Rebecca Hahn {Goodreads}

I’ve been looking forward to this book for ages! There’s DRAGONS in it. Specifically, a girl who turns into a dragon. More specifically, she’s the heir to a kingdom and the kind wants her dead. Ummm…AWESOME. Also, there’s a wild dad dragon who sends magical woods to kill her too. MAGICAL WOODS. Also, it’s blurbed by Kristin Cashore. WUT. (HMH Books for Young Readers)

Tripping Over May

Book cover Threats of Sky and Sea Jennifer EllisionThreats of Sky and Sea: Threats of Sky and Sea #1 by Jennifer Ellision {Goodreads}

Fantasy with elemental magic! Love those, always. Also, there’s a king who wants to force our MC into his service, family danger, secrets, and a dad who used to be the king’s assassin. Don’t use the “a” word if you don’t want me to be excited to read something. (Createspace)

Tripping Over May

Book cover The Castle Behind Thorns Merrie HaskellThe Castle Behind Thorns by Merrie Haskell {Goodreads}

I’ve loved Merrie Haskell’s books, friends. Her MG fantasies are always treats and lots of fun. This one, about an enchanted castle, empty save for the boy mysteriously trapped there, sounds like more of the same. (Katherine Tegen Books)

Tripping Over April

April

I’m behind on everything bloggy lately, friends! I’m hoping to get caught up a little bit this weekend, though, so bear with me, ok? *hugs* You guys are the best.

Tripping Over March

March

Oh friends, March is looking UP bookwise. So many great books coming out this month. It was harder than usual to narrow down my most anticipated titles, but I think I’ve got some pretty excellent sounding books to look forward to.

The Winner's Curse Marie Rutkoski MarchCheating a touch because I’ve already read this one, but honestly. It was excellent, and so much a fantasy after my own heart. My review will be up very soon, but take my (and, well, just about everyone else’s) word for it: THE WINNER’S CURSE is amazing. (March 4, 2014 from Macmillan)

Alex Wayfare_march.pngI’ve been waiting on this one, friends, because OMG TIME TRAVEL. Visions of the past. A girl who visits new time periods in each of her lives and meets the same boy every time. I’m reading this one soon because it sounds so incredible. (March 4 from Strange Chemistry)

Strange Sweet Song Ari Rule MarchThis book just sounds slightly creepy and mysterious and bewitching. I love the angle with the opera singing young girl, plus it’s got a boarding school and a FOREST (those are always creepy and a place where there are hidden SEKRETS), and the synopsis uses the word “gothic.” Yes, please. (March 11 from St. Martin’s Griffin)

Side Effects May Vary Julie Murphy MarchWhat an excellent, thought-provoking concept: A girl who believes she’s on death’s door decides to live her life with no thought for consequences. Except then WHOOPS her cancer goes into remission and she’s left with all kinds of messes to deal with. (March 18 from Balzer + Bray)

Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender Leslye Walton MarchI don’t even know how I could describe this book to you guys: it sounds like magical realism with family curses, love, and a young girl who is born with wings. I’m loving the fact that the action in this book seems to turn on something that happens on the Summer Solstice because that sounds magical. I’m really looking forward to seeing what’s up with this one. (March 25 from Candlewick)

Tripping Over January

January

January is here! Time for a new year and new books to look forward to! As always, I’m shouting out my five most anticipated January releases below. Let’s get 2014 off to a good start, shall we?

Tripping Over December

December

YAY DECEMBER IS HERE! December is a busy month for me–lots of birthdays and, of course, CHRISTMAS, only my favorite holiday IN THE WORLD. Thankfully, perhaps, there’s only a few books I’m dying to get my hands on this month. This is good because I still have TONS of books to read that already came out. But that doesn’t mean I’m any less stoked to read these three books!

DecemberThis one sounds like a super cute contemporary that’s coming out from a new ebook imprint of Bloomsbury. There’s a militant vegan with purple hair who sounds like a tough cookie and the captain of the football team and ART things. It sounds adorable. (December 19 from Bloomsbury Spark)

DecemberIf I hear one more excellent thing about this book, I might die. First of all, it sounds like a science-fictiony book version of Lost, one of my favorite TV shows. Second of all, I’m hearing that the romance–especially one Tarver Mendensen–is DELISH. Third of all, that cover is GORGEOUS! Science fiction is not always my go-to reading choice, and I’m usually really wary of dual-authored books, but it’s hard to ignore this much buzz. STOKED. (December 10 from Disney-Hyperion)

decemberMiranda Kenneally books are pretty solid contemps, and so I’m looking forward to RACING SAVANNAH. There’s lots of yellow on the cover, so I’m immediately drawn to it, but more than that, this one just sounds fun and swoony. Plus, HORSES. I’m always a fan of those pretties! (December 3 from Sourcebooks Fire)
